How-freaking-to

Made alot of progress today on finishing up my thesis work, much of it will be on the wall tomorrow. But in the mean time, I finished off the Tattoo aftercare how to today. I am really happy with how they came out and with keeping with my thesis on packaging I felt that they need their own containers as well, tada!

Thesis show!

So i got started today hanging my stuff for the thesis show, by that i mean shelves. I will be bringing my actual pieces most likely tomorrow. i'm pretty happy w/ the space and the shelves and how everything works, but...... I would really like more light. I'm a little dissapointed how dim it was, but i might be able to change that, we'll see!

How to

over hauled, although when printed, the text appears a bit bulky, so that will be reduced.

busy busy busy

Well sorry I haven't posted anything in awhile, but just been very busy. The school year is coming to a close and soon the thesis show will be going up. But more recently I've once again changed my tattoo how to. After critique it was mentioned that the how to appeared to be too generic, I've also changed the format so now its a french fold booklet, so here's where its at so far, layout. I'll be including the vector illustrations from the other one as well and the directions will be about the same. With this new format there might be some more wording.

Thesis paper

So worked a little on my thesis paper today, got told its "too long."
excuse me, what? although i am perfectly ok with this, i'd rather have a paper i have to trim back than a paper thats still too short, especially now.

Thesis

So.... today my thesis work so far was critiqued, went pretty well, but we were discussing titles for our thesis books, these thesis books are basically the semester long process book following the work we made for thesis.
Well as a graphic designer we are supposed to be clever and witty. So we discussed how it's just stupid to title your book, "thesis."
So now I'm considering a few different titles for my book:
1. "Spring 2011: my descent into madness"
or
2. "My Fall from Sanity"

any thoughts? (and yes it's supposed to be a joke)

How to

So this piece is something that crosses from info design and is applicable to my independant projects. The idea was to create a how to, in my case it was the perfect opportunity to work and make a really good and detailed how to. This is really after only about 1 days worth of work and the image of the tattoo is merely a place holder. So yes I'm aware of the issues in the piece, but I am also trying to run this blog kind of as a documentation of process.

Card tube

So I made a few new adjustments to the card tube design. for 1 I decided to include a fishnet pattern, meaning i put the tube in a fishnet stocking and spray painted it and 2 in order to include the shop name/logo I decided I would put a piece of paper that wraps around the tube and it will have a pull tab beneath it. This way the package will be completely sealed until the recipient pulls it open.

So before I forget again, this is the last round of stamps I did. I will be going in and tweaking the first 2 sets I posted, I just haven't gotten that far yet.

So these are the images I decided on to include in my index images and one of them wil be shown during comencement.

Playing card tube

This is another piece I'm really happy with, I took playing cards, sewn together and in 2 pieces will contain the aftercare supplies. I'm not crazy about the sewing being so visible, so I found some oversized cards that I may be able to make the entire tube out of, we'll see.

very productive

So had Sat & Sun off this weekend and got quite a bit done, all my envelopes are finished and now it's just incorporating aftercare instructions. But I got a few more things accomplished, below is an image of the 8-ball bra, yes i ruined a bra (not mine) and made it into an 8-ball bra similar to whats seen on the LLT logo. sorry for the poor image....

3 am

So its after 3 am and I've been working on thesis for about 12+ hours straight, this is very long. So I've been working on the packages, but now I'm on my paper and as far as I can tell I'm making perfect sense. but I'll have to check once I get a little sleep........

more stamps

So here's another sheet of stamps I designed, these ones are more focused on conveying my thesis work. I still have another sheet about my thesis but have decided not to post them just yet because I don't think they're there yet.

So right now I'm taking a break and working on creating a postage stamp around thesis. The first one I had an idea for unfortunately didn't have anything to do with thesis, but I thought the stamp was a good idea, originally I wanted a tree symbol in the middle, but I felt with the sketchy quality that it got a little muddled since the stamp itself is so small. So here's the first round, the 2nd one that actually relates to my thesis will be coming soon.

IMAGES!!!

This post and the previous one are the images of some of the containers I worked on over "break".  Within this post are the images of the clover box, which is still very much an in progress piece. The next post is images of some re-apropriated packages, I took padded mailing envelopes and lined them with this awesome flannel backed satin, so the envelopes are completely unassuming from the exterior and it's not until you actually open them that you get the experience.

so as i continue into whats left of this shriveled semester, my goal is to make 60 different package experiences, yes 60. (in all reality, i'll probably get 40, but i have to aim high)

post vaca work

sorry i haven't had any new posts, had no internet over the break. I've gotten a fair amount accomplished, some really awesome envelopes, reappropriated packages and a clover box in progress ( the clover box was a bitch). but once i unpack i will post pictures of all work

After care box

So I started assembling/designing a tattoo after care box for the tattoo shop and as another independant project. So far I've only made 1 full size and it is made out of paper which is not strong enough for the function so I will have to iron out materials and I will definitely be making a trip to kinko's tomorrow! So I attached some pics of the after care box as of so far....

Supplies

Got a pic of some of the supplies for my 2nd independant project. Had some hesitations at first, but, things are really coming together now.

time line project

So I revisited my time line project. I decided to do a time line about materials used in packaging. little bit of a more broad topic, so I was able to keep things simple and clear. The dates are not the actual dates so I already know they still need to be fixed. I'm looking for input on the form. Thanks!

So this is the first template I'm working on for my next project, I will also be finishing a package history timeline soon. The whole point of this is keeping thing simple and clean, so there's minimal image, the lime green is to indicate its flavor. So next I am onto adding a nutrition label and bar code, the necessary stuff....

In the process

So I will eventually have a time line up, hopefully pretty soon. Just started doing some work on some packages, after that I'll start designing for fake companies, any ideas for good fake products, let me know. Thanks!

So this is where I will be posting some Independent Projects I will be completing during my last semester at Maine College of Art. Right now I would like to start with a poster I did to introduce my thesis...
Just to clarify, no my thesis is not about tide, it is more about the history of packages and design.
